Having grown up visiting the boardwalk, going to fairs, and hanging out at carnivals… going on rides and playing games were two of my favorite pastimes. So exciting! Getting tossed about, turned upside-down, or round-and-round until I was dizzy from the rides. Playing games of “skill” where you’d try as hard as you could to win the biggest stuffed animal to take home. Those were good times. As for the clowns in this painting, Tillie (top) is the iconic face who graced the side of the Palace Amusements in Asbury Park, NJ, and on the bottom is another clown from that same building (now gone), but forever in my heart. I chose the title because it tugged at the emotions of anticipation I always had when we were on our way to partake in all that fun.
