This painting was inspired by my favorite picture postcard of all time! It was of a church billboard that — when you stood in just the right place in front of a Dunkin Donuts — together it read... Jesus died for our Dunkin’ Donuts.

In the beginning stages, I fell in love with the graffiti guy on the right, who I had used some Dunkin Donuts paper products on. I built up the areas around him so many times, painted them over, sanded them down, repainted, and covered them back up, but never quite resolved the painting. Then it sat for over a year.

Eventually I saw an old 70’s poster which inspired the type style and wondering what kind of saying I would write, I recalled the sentiment on that old postcard and this piece became an ode to that piece of nostalgia.

To add the element of age to it, I piled on tons of collage and ephemera to make it look like an old advertisement on a building that had been worn away and graffitied over time.
