Just Jack (Out of the Box)

This painting was inspired by a vintage jack-in-the-box toy I found at a flea market. I just love the fun, bold colors and big floppy hands of this children’s pop-up music box. I used a minimal color palette to mimic that of the toymaker, and echoed it throughout the piece and in the variety of patterns (I love mixing patterns!). The title also makes reference to the Will & Grace TV show and how the character Jack McFarland would throw up his hands jazz style each time he boasted his catch phrase, “Just Jack!”  

Note: Jack is decorated with actual vintage pom-poms on his outfit and his nose is a vintage motorcycle tail light.
