Not only is this painting literally BANANAS, it’s my first self portrait and it’s a mashup of 3 inspirations… 1. The Basquiat painting of Andy Warhol as a banana, 2. My pink-haired social media profile picture, and 3. That dumb banana, duct taped to the wall at Art Basel Miami 2019 that sold for $120,000.
And I literally went bananas on this! Every single piece of collage, ephemera, and object on this represents something about me, and the process of picking it all out was so much fun! It became an interesting and challenging experience to make something that was only about me, but it turned out to be oh so meaningful, insightful, and sweet!
