the italian rainbow

This is an ode to my local Italian Ice vendor, who has a fleet of trucks with with this funny guy on them (who I found out was actually inspired by a Grateful Dead album cover). I wanted this to look like the old, faded, worn truck art but if it had been graffitied on over time… carving in words, phrases and drawings that were related to my favorite ices guy... Weaser!
This painting was created with love using layers of acrylics and oil pastel, then sanded back through to reveal the rainbow of colors and elements underneath. I couldn't resist adding the glittery melty ICES letters at the top, because that was like a beacon calling me to get a cool Italian ice on a hot summer day.
