This mixed media painting was inspired by an amazing vintage truck I spotted in my neighborhood. It looked like the perfect pair of faded, worn, dirty, blue jeans you’ve ever seen. I eventually met the owner and found out there is no Midnight Salvage. It was just a name the guys made up at his shop that they thought would look good on the truck… yup, he was a mechanic and did restorations. But his name was Tom and he did live in Ocean Grove.

To recreate the aged look of the truck, I played with layers upon layers of dark and rust colored paints, created the signage on top of all that, and then scraped and sanded back into it to reveal the colors beneath. I added vintage hardware on top to make it look like perhaps the sign had been painted on top of an old piece of furniture.
