THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE

In the 80’s and 90’s, my dial was always set to WHTG 106.3 FM, the best damn alternative radio station that ever existed! In the most awesome way it was different music for different people so that we didn’t feel so different. That genre of music became the soundtrack of my life and this painting is my tribute to those couple of decades where I got to figure out who I truly was.

The painting started with the station's iconic red, white and black sticker logo design for the sole purpose of scratching, scraping and carving onto it over 100 of WHTG’s playlist band names and logos, illustrious deejays, exclusive programs, and other related stuff. This painting was also part of an interactive art experience where other 106.3 fans got to scratch in their favorites too, and is signed on the back by those guest artists.

Besides the totally zen process of scratching into the wooden canvas, what I loved most about creating this piece is how perfectly it reflects what I do best — maximalist-style controlled chaos in its most frenetic form. It might look completely random, but every detail was obsessively thought out and mapped with purpose. That’s where I shine, in that space between reckless abandon and intention.
